How to Care for Your Locket from The Locket Sisters
Your custom locket from The Locket Sisters is more than just jewelry. It's a wearable piece of your story, infused with love, memory, and connection. To help it last for years to come, we’ve put together a care guide with everything you need to know to keep your locket looking beautiful and meaningful.
1. Daily Care Tips
The best way to care for your locket is to wear it! The natural oils on your skin actually help keep the metal shiny and reduce tarnish over time. We encourage you to enjoy it daily — your locket was made to be worn, not tucked away!
2. How to Clean Your Locket
Your locket may need an occasional polish to maintain its shine. We recommend using Connoisseurs Jewelry Cleaner, which is safe for use on sterling silver and gold vermeil. You can find it here.
We also created a step-by-step video to walk you through how to safely clean your locket at home. Watch our jewelry cleaning video here.
Tip: Always clean with a jewelry cleaning cloth and avoid scrubbing the resin-sealed photo inside your locket.
3. When You're Not Wearing Your Locket
Our custom Locket Sisters boxes aren’t just for gifting — they’re the perfect place to store your locket. Each box is lined to keep your piece protected from dust, moisture, and light — all of which can contribute to tarnishing.
When you’re not wearing your locket, place it back in the box to keep it safe and beautiful.
4. Avoid Moisture and Harsh Chemicals
While the resin that protects your photos is waterproof once fully cured, it’s always best to avoid exposing your locket to:
- Chlorine (pools and hot tubs)
- Harsh soaps or household cleaners
- Perfumes and lotions (apply before putting on your locket)
Keeping your locket dry will help the chain and metal last longer.
5. Chains and Repairs
If your chain breaks or stretches with use, we offer replacement chains through our website. You can order a new chain here, or reach out to us directly if your locket needs a repair.
Repairs within 12 months of purchase are complimentary, and after that, a small fee applies.
6. Caring for the Resin-Sealed Photo
Each photo is sealed permanently inside your locket using a clear epoxy resin. It protects the image from water, dust, and fading. That said, avoid using abrasive materials on the inside of your locket to keep the resin’s finish crystal-clear.
Let Your Locket Shine
Your locket is a symbol of your love, memory, and legacy — and with a little intentional care, it will shine for years to come. Whether you wear it daily or bring it out for special moments, this piece was made to last.
