What Does It Mean That Your Locket Has Resin?

What Does It Mean That Your Locket Has Resin?

At The Locket Sisters, every locket we make is as unique as the story it carries. Each one is carefully crafted by hand, customized with your photo, and sealed with intention. One of the most common questions we receive is about resin — what it is, why we use it, and when you might choose not to have it added.

Here’s everything you need to know about resin and your locket.

What Is Resin and Why Do We Use It?

Resin is a clear, durable material we hand-pour over your photo inside the locket. Once it cures, it creates a glossy, protective seal that keeps your image safe from moisture, fingerprints, and everyday wear.

We add resin to about 99% of the lockets we make — because it not only protects your photo, but also gives your locket a polished, heirloom-quality finish that lasts for years to come.

When You Might Choose Not to Add Resin (Right Away)

While resin is a beautiful way to preserve your photo permanently, there are times when you may want to wait before having it added.

If you’re gifting a locket and aren’t completely sure which photo to include yet, we recommend skipping the resin for now. You can always send it back to us later — the cost of resin and photo printing is already included in your purchase.

Likewise, if you think you might want to change the photo in the future, we encourage you to keep your locket unsealed until you’re ready. Once the resin is added, the image becomes permanent and can’t be switched out.

If time is of the essence and you want to share the gift of a locket right away, ordering without resin allows for a quicker turnaround—so you can give your meaningful gift sooner.

When You’re Ready to Add Resin Later

If you decide to hold off on adding resin when you first order your locket, that’s absolutely okay! Here’s how it works:

  • You can purchase your locket empty or with just the printed photos placed inside — no resin yet. We will add your choice of chain, place it in a chic jewelry box, and send it out within one to two business days.

  • When the time comes to make your photo forever, simply send us an email with your original order number to let us know you’re ready.

  • We’ll give you easy instructions for shipping your locket back to us.

  • Once we receive it, we’ll add your resin and seal your locket with care, then send it right back to you — ready to wear and treasure for years to come.

This option gives you the flexibility to finalize your photo choice on your own timeline, while knowing your locket will be beautifully completed whenever you’re ready.

Sealed with Care, Made to Last

When resin is added to your locket, it becomes a one-of-a-kind piece — made just for you. The resin permanently seals your photo inside, meaning it can’t be removed, replaced, or reused.

That’s part of what makes resin lockets so meaningful: each one is a tiny, custom-made keepsake that’s built to endure, just like the memories it holds. Once sealed, your locket is designed to last a lifetime, protecting what matters most inside.

If You’re Not Sure Yet… That’s Okay!

We understand that sometimes, choosing the right photo takes time. If you’d like to order your locket now but decide on the image later, we’re happy to help. You can place your order without resin, and when you’re ready, we’ll take care of sealing it for you — with the same care and craftsmanship we bring to every locket we make.

In Summary

  • Resin protects your photo and gives your locket a long-lasting, finished look.

  • You can choose to skip resin if you plan to change or finalize the photo later.

  • Once resin is added, the photo is permanent — your locket becomes uniquely yours.

  • We’re happy to add resin anytime — just email us with your order number when you’re ready.

Whether you choose to have resin added now or later, your locket is a piece of your story — made with care, love, and a deep respect for the memories you hold close.
