Seven years ago my sister and I were meeting with a photography client, and I told them the story about how my daughter was so comforted at preschool drop-off by the locket I made for her that she'd been offering it to other kids in her class when they were struggling. Before that client even left, my sister grabbed my arm in the dark-room-turned-back-storage-room and whispered, “We gotta do lockets.” We didn't have a background in e-commerce, or even any formal training in jewelry for that matter, but we'd already developed a way of resizing the photos and securing them inside lockets with resin, because that's how we personally wanted to wear them, and I suppose our naïveté about the rest of it was essential to taking the leap at all.

Now, seven years later, something we underestimated back then is much clearer now: The best part of our lockets isn't their quality or the method we use to make them, it's what they mean to the people who wear them. My daughter sharing her locket with other children was a window into what would carry us forward in the years to come.
