Welcome to The Locket Sisters, where meaning is at the heart of what we do. Our lockets are more than just accessories; they are vessels that allow love to be felt in a whole new way. The inspiration for our first locket came from Allyssa's own daughter, Penny. It was a photo of her family that provided her with comfort and reassurance as she headed off to preschool. Now, our lockets have traveled all over the world, each one holding a unique and significant story. They represent meaningful experiences, special connections, and cherished relationships. Whether in times of grief or moments of celebration, our lockets offer solace and joy. In fact, Penny still wears her very first locket, six years later.
As I get older, I understand the value of investing in pieces that hold treasured memories and personal significance. That's why I have slowly replaced my old and impulsive jewelry purchases with a small collection of necklaces, earrings, and bracelets that hold a special place in my heart.
For instance, I have a pair of fair trade earrings that were selected by a dear friend who thought of me when she saw them. Knowing my passion for ethically-made products, she gifted me with these earrings years ago that now serve as a daily reminder of her love and thoughtfulness.
Another cherished piece is a locket with a picture of my children and me, taken on Mother's Day four years ago. Every time I wear it, I am filled with joy and nostalgia for that special day.
But my most treasured piece is a ring I've worn since 2019, handcrafted by students in Nepal. It symbolizes my time working for a non-profit organization that walked alongside women and students who had been in poverty or rescued from life harming situations. This ring embodies their success and renewed love for others as they created art. I began wearing it during our family's summer in Cambodia, where we stayed at a branch of the same non-profit. Living in the sewing center alongside the women who showed up daily to create pieces at a fair wage, I was reminded of the impact our actions can have on others.
When we started making Permanent Jewelry in our studio, Allyssa and I both knew that we couldn’t just put a chain around someone’s wrist without finding a way for each guest to experience connection and depth. We offer a special experience for our guests when they receive a permanent piece of jewelry including finding a chain that has a special meaning. It's something they can keep with them and remember not only the experience, but also something they chose to connect with. We offer a variety of chains, each with its own unique meaning. Our guests can choose from options such as the Sehnsucht Chain, which means "feeling a strong desire or longing for something we cannot name," or the Wabi-Sabi Chain, which is Japanese for "accepting the cycle of life and death.”
Our chains hold meaningful words from cultures around the world. As avid travelers and cultural enthusiasts, we have collected beautiful words that capture the essence of joy and life in different parts of the globe. Currently, we offer 20 unique styles in various chain types. Our top seller, the Mudita Chain, embodies the idea of finding delight in others' happiness, success, and well-being. Another popular choice is the Flaneur, a 14K gold chain that pays homage to the French concept of wandering aimlessly and savoring the moments of life and the world around us.
I wear the Ubuntu Chain as a bracelet, zapped on me back in April when we were just getting started. The word Ubuntu originates from the Nguni Bantu language of South Africa, and it translates to "I am because we are." This powerful concept represents the belief that we are all interconnected, and our actions and compassion towards others define who we are as individuals. I was drawn to the idea of always keeping this reminder of compassion and humanity towards others close to me. So, while my bracelet may seem like just a piece of jewelry to some, to me, it represents something much greater. It is a symbol of unity, kindness, and empathy, and a constant reminder to strive towards being the best version of myself.
