Mpls/St. Paul Magazine Feature: Lockets are the Best Gift For Graduates

Before we had international shipping, before we offered anything in gold, before we even know what "sourcing" even meant, we just made lockets for ourselves and our photo clients. That was it, that was plenty.

In the fall of 2017 my sister overheard me telling a story to a client about how my locket had comforted my daughter so much at her preschool when she was struggling with drop offs and full days away. In fact, the locket helped so much that her teachers even told me that she was offering it to other little students who were missing their families.

Amy heard this, the client left our studio, and she was like we gotta expand the lockets. And she was right. It didn't make sense to keep them so private, and we know this to be true after a couple years of opening up what we offer to more than just ourselves and our local photography clients.

But what we didn't expect is that we'd have people around the world wearing our lockets. That our lockets would usurp our work with our popular photo studio. That we'd be featured in Mpls/St. Paul Magazine as the No. 1 gift recommendation for graduates in the Class of 2020.

And really, it makes sense to have a locket be featured as a really fantastic gift to give a graduate. Here are just a couple reasons why:

  • so many graduation parties have been cancelled (boooo! so sorry grads and parents!) and a locket is something you can order from home and ship anywhere
  • a locket is a small keepsake that can hold one or two photos and the graduate can carry it with them wherever they go, for whatever is next for them
  • it's really fun to give. no really, it's such a fun gift to give!

The Locket Sisters featured in Mpls/St. Paul Magazine (again!).  The Locket Sisters featured in June 2020 issue of Minneapolis St. Paul magazine

I often reflect on how this coming-of-age generation is experiencing life differently than any other. They're forming a world view, ideas, a plan, and all during The Great Reset of 2020. Wouldn't that be wild? I wonder how they'll see things decades from now. I do believe this will effect them for the better, if we can all hang on and get through this, because it feeds a certain amount of humanity and adaptation that I've never seen before.

I wish all of them so well.

Warmly,

Allyssa

P.S. The locket featured in the magazine is The Gold Bangle.
