"Joanne and Tom were my parents best friends. They were maid of honor and best man in each other's weddings in 1965. After my parents divorced, Tom and Joanne were my mom's lifeline. Fast forward to June of 2016, my mom was diagnosed with Stage 3 Ovarian Cancer. Once again, Tom and Joanne were her lifeline, and for my sister and me even more. They visited her, helped drive her to appointments, checked on her, loved her and met her, where ever she was, once a week for dinner for 2.5 years. Sadly we lost mom on November 4th, 2018. The following January, Tom was diagnosed with Glioblastoma Brain Cancer. So shortly after losing her best friend, and watching her battle cancer, Joanne was tasked with taking care of her best friend and husband of nearly 50 years as he battled this demon. Tom passed away on July 18th, 2019. My mother was the only person who remembered, every year, that May 8th was the anniversary of their first date. How she remembered, we don't know. But she did, and always sent a card. I wanted to give this locket to Joanne on May 8th, so she can always have Tom with her to look at it when she misses him."
