Growing up in the 80s and 90s, the Oprah Winfrey talk show was on our TV every afternoon from 4pm-5pm on channel 4. My Mom watched it religiously, and by proxy, my siblings and I did too. Those were the days I'd eat an entire box of pasta with parmesan cheese as an after-school snack, or sprinkle cinnamon onto a massive bowl of vanilla ice cream as I waited for Geraldo's show to wrap so Oprah's could begin.
When my sister and I started the Locket Sisters almost 8.5 years ago, she had a goal of catching Oprah's attention so we could be one of “Oprah's Favorite Things", which I once read has a buying power that lasts two years. TWO YEARS! That means that anything that Oprah added to her annual list of gifts for one studio audience impacted us as shoppers for two more years beyond the air date of that episode. This information, matched with the legacy of Oprah Winfrey's voice in our childhood home, and then sprinkle on my sister's willingness to dream really, really big, meant why wouldn't we send her a locket?

Nothing came of sending lockets toward Oprah's orbit, and the idea moved to the back of our minds. Besides, we've been featured in wonderful magazines and TV shows over the years and been so grateful for each opportunity to tell people about what we do. Each one has lead to the next thing, and the next thing, and the next thing, something divine always carrying us wherever we need to go next.
Earlier this week I got an email saying “Oprah Daily included The Silver Little Oval Locket in a story titled, The 24 Best Mother’s Day Gifts for Your Sister, Even If She’s Impossible to Buy For."
I sent my sister a text right away – even though she moved on from the Locket Sisters in March of 2020 to lean into her calling, this feels like hers, too.
It might not exactly be Oprah's Favorite Things (do they still have that show?), but for a small locket company in Minneapolis making meaningful lockets that go all over the world, being featured in this gift guide with Oprah Daily is a really big deal, and a really big honor.
Here's a link to read the story (we're No. 23!) and here's a link to the Little Oval Locket, too.
Oh – and if it's relevant for you, the last day to order a locket with Mother's Day delivery in the US is Friday, May 1st.
Warmly,
Allyssa
