Happy birthday to us

But before we get to the sale, we want to tell you how this all started. It began with a three-year-old, a preschool classroom, and one very small locket.

Where it all began: Penny's first locket

Nine years ago, our founder Allyssa's daughter, Penny, was starting preschool. Like so many little ones, she found goodbyes hard. Morning drop-offs were tearful, and watching the half-day kids head home at lunch only made the missing worse.

So Allyssa made her a locket, with a photo of the two of them tucked inside. It worked better than anyone expected. Penny's teacher later shared that Penny had started offering her locket to other kids who were missing their parents. If it helped her, she reasoned, surely it could help them, too.

When Allyssa's sister, Amy, heard her tell that story to a photography client, she pulled her aside and said four words: "We gotta do lockets." The sisters photographed the lockets they'd been offering through their photo business, built a website at the kitchen table of their childhood home, and launched just before the 2017 holiday season.

What's changed, and what never will

A lot can happen in nine years. Amy eventually stepped away to follow her own calling, and Allyssa stepped further in, weaving storytelling into every piece we make and every word we write.

What hasn't changed is the heart of it. A locket is a way to keep your people with you, across time, across distance, and even beyond loss. Nine years in, your stories are still what move us most: the grandmother's portrait worn on a wedding day, the pup who's gone but never far, the college kid with home tucked under a collar. Every one of them reminds us why we do this.
